[The "Thumper" get's an upgrade.]
The 30ci motor is upgraded to 34.47ci, (564.89cc),
better known as the
'5-35', (for 5 horse power, 35 cubic inch).
The weight had gone to 316 lbs, and yet could manage 50 MPH.
It still had a 1.5 gallon fuel tank, but a 3.5 quart oil
tank.
The price of the V-twin increased more than
20%, purely on it's
popularity. [In otherwords, HD gouges the public for the
first time
based simply on popularity. Ring a bell?].
The V-twin necessitated improvements that
both the twin and single would benefit from, namely, balanced
flywheel, rods and piston assembly. HD otherwise took a
cautionary approach to changes at this point, [maybe due
to the sha-lak-in in 1909], but they still watch the competitors very
carefully. [The beginning of a wrong decision, that would
become tradition, for too long].
Skirted fenders were used, offset to the
side needing the most
protection from road elements; the belt final drive side.
Main models, (production #'s):
9-A 35ci-Single, w/belt drive, (1,510), $290
9-B 35ci-Single, w/chain drive, (4,601),
$290
9-E 61ci-V-Twin, w/chain drive, (6,732),
$350
9-F 61ci-V-Twin, w/chain drive, (49)
9-G Forecar Delivery Van: 61ci, w/front mount
delivery box, (63).

plus various saddles,
Goodyear vs Empire tires, and Two Speed Transmission for
commercial use.
Same paint options as last few years.
