HD tidbits from '73
[Where have all the FL's gone.]

[Look below. The FL series is now simplistic in model and name. They are simply FL and FLH Shovelheads. Not that production went down. Also note the hand shift models are gone.].

Revised FLH - (here are the stats as of 1973): 8:1 compression, increase to 66 bhp, Bendix carb, chain primary and final drive, coil/points ignition, 61.5 wheelbase, 5 gallon tank, 100mph, $2,500

Main Models, (production #):

XLH - 1,000cc, (9,875) 'Sportster Super H'
XLCH - 1,000cc, (10,825) 'Sportster Super CH'

FL - 74ci, (1,025)
FLH - 74ci, (7,750)

FX - 74ci, foot shifted 4 speed, (7,625) 'Super Glide'

GE Servi-car - 45ci flathead, 3 forward speed, 1 reverse, (425).

Paint: birch white, [Now AMF is really getting cheap in the paint
department. Common, buy a color TV or something!].

XL changes:
single front disc brakes.
Japanese Kayaba front forks.
Plastic switch housing.
Rear & front hydraulic disc brakes.

FL:
kickstarter no longer available.
redesigned tail light.
updated cone gear cover.
rear hydraulic disc brakes.

FX:
firmer suspension, single tear drop gas tank, [now they're going to far
into the sportster look. This bike took on the long tank that the XLH
would drop next.], ignition switch moved to left side below tank,
handlebar mounted speedo, front & rear hydraulic disc brakes, master
cylinder moved in front of right foot peg, plastic switch housing, [BTW,
I've always associated plastic housings to JPOS. Somewhere along the
line, metal returned. Yayyyy!]

GE:
6 lugs to mount rear brake drum & 6 lug bolt wheels.
Rear disc brakes for late models.

MoFoCo minutes:
William Davidson, chairman, retires, [geesh dude, you just got the job]
John O'Brien is named chairman. He was an AMF production expert.
John Davidson named President.
The Juneau Avenue plant is turned into a huge combination warehouse and office complex.
