HD tidbits from '86
[Nothing but Evo]
In '86, a few models would have 'Special
Anniversary' and/or 'Liberty'
Editions available. Also in '86, federal noise statutes would
mean new
exhaust for all models.
*^* New Model, FLST Heritage Softail:
50's styling injection. Rigid with Hydra-Glide front end.
Seat height of
only 26.5". pulled back handle bar because of the farther
back mounted
seat. 650 lbs, 62.5" wheelbase, 112 mph, 5 gallon tank,
3 qts of oil,
$9,099.
*^* New Sporster Models, XLH 883: Start with
the XLX frame, add all the benefits and engineering of
the Evo sized to 883, and voila... there it is. Aluminum
heads and cylinders, hydraulic lifters, 34mm fixed-venturi Keihin
carb, powder coat frame paint, cast aluminum wheels, solo
seat, low bars, speedo only, turn signals double as running
lights, 30" seat height, Upgrade package=special paint
and trim.
The 1100 model got larger valves, 883 large
bore Evo engine and another 10 ponies to ride with, (63bhp).
It was a sporty overhaul year, but still looked much the
same. Keihin carb, 60" wheelbase, 492 lbs, 2.25 gallon
tank, 112 mph, turn signals double as running lights.
